前回、「ISOコンテナデータセンタの意義(その1)」を書いた際、最後に「続く」と記載しておきながら、随分と時間が経ってしまいました。 今回、どこまで書けるかわかりませんが、とにかく始めたいと思います。 前回コンテナの利用法として、以下の項目を挙げました。
・ラック貸し(コロケーション)モデルに使わない。
・供給電力を過剰に準備しない。 ・徹底的に省電力に取り組む。
・コンテナ単位でPaaS/SaaSサービスを提供する。
そして、これらを考慮しつつビジネスモデルのなかにコンテナの特性を組み込まないと、コンテナDCを使う意義が見出せないと書きました。 実は上記の項目には上げていない非常に重要な項目があります。強いて言うと、「コンテナ単位でPaaS/SaaSサービス」の中に含まれるのですが・・・

このところ、ISOコンテナデータセンタについて紹介してきました。(「走る」ISOコンテナデータセンタ 解禁 、ISOコンテナデータセンター 始動!) 今回は、お約束通り(?)このデータセンタの使いみちについてふれたいと思います。 コンテナDCは安いのか? 「コンテナ型」データセンターのメリットとして、建築物ではないので安くつくれる。というような触れ込みを耳にしますが、これって本当でしょうか? 結論から言うと、コロケーションのための設備として、建物とコンテナを比較するとラック単価いおいてコンテナは決して安くありません。
